Plastic pollution a threat to fishing.

SDG 14

One of the biggest threats to sustainability of marine life is plastic pollution.
Phillipines is the 3rd biggest ocean polluter after China and Indonesia. Majority of fishermen in Phillipines are small scale fishermen who depend on fishing for their livelihood. It is estimated that over a million marine animals are killed each year due to plastic debris in the ocean.
A staggering 2.7 million tons of plastic waste are generated in the Philippines each year, 20% of which is estimated to end up in the ocean. This is majorly driven by satchet economy and single use packaging. The country lacks resources for efficient waste management.
While a solid waste management law exists, little has been done in compliance with the law
