Nature based Solutions; a vital link for eco-recovery

SDG 7 SDG 8 SDG 13 SDG 14 SDG 15

Starting from the 18th century and becoming more acute in the 20th century, the protection, conservation and preservation of biodiversity has been treated across national, regional and global developmental agenda, noted as both a barrier and pathway to sustainable development. However, science has unequivocally proved that nature is highly essential for human co-existence and definitely a good quality of life.
Over the past decades, there considerably has been progress; most particularly in acknowledging the services provided by the ecosystem, services that absolutely are vital for all life; food, water, energy and support to climate adaptation and mitigation. There is now a growing global consensus in relation to the growing ecological threats to human existence, presented by the impact of climate change and biodiversity loss. The only way of setting the norm is creating a harmonious relationship with human interactions with nature and putting back nature at the center of the developmental agenda through nature based solutions.
As the World engages to recover from the adverse social and economic crises brought about by the impacts of the pandemic, important enough is to identify ways to build back with nature, not only for today, but also the future to come. Nature based solutions present a highly dynamic approach towards addressing both the climate and biodiversity crises with dependence on nature. This takes into account the ability of nature to sustain and address the challenges affecting the glo0bal economy both directly and indirectly.
