The Central African Republic has had a history of civil war and political arrest mainly due to struggle for power and control of resources. The decades of civil war has caused high levels of poverty, displacement and inequality.

With the struggle for power causing an unlikely coalition of the rebel forces against the elected government, the country is in full political instability.

The resource curse has plagued the African continent for decades and continues to be true in Central African Republic.

The exploitation of child labour in the mining fields for minerals such as gold enable rebel forces to fund themselves and recruit.
