IUCNs conceptual and definitional framework on NBS Definitional and Operational frameworks

#IUCNCONGRESS21 #naturebasedsolutions
SDG 8 SDG 11 SDG 15 SDG 17

The frameworks on NBS show a transitional flow from definitional to operational, fast taking trend in most parts of the globe.
IUCN during the World Conservation Congress in 2012 developed and released a Global Programme for which Nature Based Solutions constituted one third. This marked the onset of the definitional framework on Nature-based /solutions. Till date, IUCN has done elaborate work on developing a conceptual framework that should help guide Global IUCN process and programmes. Societal challenges. In consent to this was a move to create a firm and concrete clear-cut definition of the the scope of Nature-based Solutions.
The global standards for nature-based solutions launched by IUCN as at July, 2020 presents criteria stipulated to streamline the Nature-based Solutions processes, policy atmosphere and on-ground action on NBS.
Nature Based Solutions may not have taken shape in most parts of the World. However, NBS have proved successful in solving societal challenges in parts of the World that already have it in implementation. This therefore presents an utmost need to popularize the concept as an additional and complementary tool towards attaining the UN Global agenda of 2030 and beyond.
