International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer (16th September)

#PRESERVATION #OZONELAYER
SDG 3 SDG 13 SDG 17

The Montreal convection and the Kigali agreement have the same goal, which is to protect the ozone layer and prevent its depletion. Be it through reducing green house gas emitions or looking for better and sustainable coolants.

First we need to understand why it is so important to preserve the ozone layer. What happens if it continues to get depleted? We will experience UV radiation from the sun at a higher level as the ozone layer is the one that protects us from that. With that comes increased skin cancers, damage to marine/aquatic life, melting of the ice caps, increased heat waves, forest fires and damage to plant life just but to mention a few.

It is our responsibility to hold our governments responsible for the upholding of these conventions and agreements that will help preserve the ozone layer and also take note of things that can harm the ozone layer in our daily lives.
