SDG 5

170 years from now, women will earn as much as men.
170 years from now, women will make up 50% of the bosses.
But 170 years is almost two centuries away and we don't have the luxury of time. We can't and will not wait. The time to take a stand is now.

Did you know that;
- 9/10 equity executives are male.
-Only 5% of fortune 500 CEO's are women.
-Women make up only 17% of silicone valley tech workers
-Female advisors make 42% less than their male counterparts for the same amount of work done.
More interesting is that if you replace woman's name with a man's on a resume your chances of getting hired increase significantly.

Why is this though, when research has clearly shown that women make up 60% of the workforce and control 80% of consumer buying power. Teams with women outperform those without, companies with women on boards outperform those with all men boards by 26%. We also cannot fail to mention that the youngest recipient of the nobel peace prize is a woman, Malala Yousafzai.

Goal 5 of SDG is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
The target of SDG 5 is to:
-End all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere.
-Eliminate all forms of violence against all women and girls in the public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual and other types of exploitation.
-Eliminate all harmful practices, such as child, early and forced marriage and female genital mutilation.
-Recognize and value unpaid care and domestic work through the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies and the promotion of shared responsibility within the household and the family as nationally appropriate.
-Ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decisionmaking in political, economic and public life.
-Ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health and reproductive rights as agreed in accordance with the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and the Beijing Platform for Action and the outcome documents of their review conferences.
-Undertake reforms to give women equal rights to economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property, financial services, inheritance and natural resources, in accordance with national laws.
Enhance the use of enabling technology, in particular information and communications technology, to promote the empowerment of women.
-Adopt and strengthen sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels.

It isn't a he or she thing but a we thing.
