World Hepatitis Day 2021
Theme: “Hepatitis can’t wait”

#28July #HepatitisDay2021
SDG 3

World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and hepatocellular cancer. With a person dying every 30 seconds from a hepatitis related illness – even in the current COVID-19 crisis – we can’t wait to act on viral hepatitis.

Viral hepatitis impacts more than 354 million people worldwide and causes more than 1 million deaths each year. Heavy alcohol use, toxins, some medications, and certain medical conditions can cause hepatitis. However, hepatitis is often caused by a virus. The five hepatitis viruses – hepatitis A, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, hepatitis D, and hepatitis E – are distinct and can spread in different ways, affect different populations, and result in different health outcomes. The key ways of preventing hepatitis is through hygiene and vaccination.
