UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the vision for a Green recovery

The Globe today is in an overarching crisis, highly faced by a triple wave of disastrous environmental challenges wide ranging from biodiversity loss, climate change and pollution. These have not spared the global economic and production systems of the various nations around the globe. Consequently, the results of human actions towards destruction of natural heritage is taking suit; evident and signified by ever-increasing global temperatures, melting of glaciers, species and habitat loss among others.

With the UN Decade of Ecosystems restoration in play this presents a second chance to reconcile harmony with nature. he UN decade on ecosystem restoration provides us with a highly unique opportunity to create harmony with our natural systems, bring back and reclaim the lost glory and natural potentials which formerly were held by these rich landscapes all-round the globe. With lots of ecosystems restoration efforts taking on high gears in various parts of the globe, the wave and momentum for a recovery into a greener economy is just yet at its starting point.

The World Environment Day, commemorated under the theme Re-image, Recreate and Restore is a day the UN seeks to enhance focus on the attention of investors, businesses, governments and communities on the increasingly urgent need to restore the Earth’s ecosystems.

The wave of action of the decade on Ecosystems restoration, led by United Nations Environmental Program and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will see lots of efforts by various stakeholders and actors towards attaining the goals and targeys as set in the decade by 2030.
