SDG 9 SDG 11

Nzambi Matee is the Founder of Gjenge Makers, an enterprise whose main aim is to tackle the plastic waste menace in Kenya. She is recycling plastic waste into bricks that have a higher durability than concrete bricks. Matee and her company produce between 1000-1500 bricks per day. She keenly states that plastic waste has better potential if recycled .
Nzambi has recently been named a Young Champion of the Earth 2020 Africa Winner at the United Nations Environmental Program.
Explaining the process in detail; after collecting the waste, the extruder does the mixing of sand with the plastic waste at extreme temperatures and then the resulting material is compressed by a press. The pavers are certified by the Kenya Bureau of Standards,

Plastic is a material that is misunderstood and misused but Nzambi is brilliantly championing its rediscovery.
