Dirty Beaches.

SDG 12 SDG 14

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them.
Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year for use in a wide variety of applications. At least 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year, and make up 80% of all marine debris from surface waters to deep-sea sediments.Marine species ingest or are entangled by plastic debris, which causes severe injuries and deaths.Plastic pollution threatens food safety and quality, human health, coastal tourism, and contributes to climate change.
Many beaches all around the world are just as filled with plastic trash as the one shown above in Cornwall, England. These bits wash up in areas where tourists don't usually visit, but it doesn't mean it isn't there.

So, next time you visit the beach, carry a trash bag with you. Clean up after yourself. Do your part to keep our beaches as pristine as you'd like to find them.
