Japan nuclear waste dumping

#TOXIC WASTE
SDG 6 SDG 14 SDG 15

The decision of the Japanese government to dump nuclear waste from Fukushima into the pacific ocean has caused uproar and disapproval from neighboring countries such as China , Korea and environmentalists however the United States has gone on record supporting this endeavor.

The long term effects of dumping this nuclear waste will not only disrupt the biodiversity in the ocean but can cause unforeseen consequences that may be a detriment to society.

United Nations’ human rights special rapporteurs warned the Japanese government in June 2020 and again in March 2021 that discharging the water into the environment breaches the rights of Japanese citizens and its neighbors including Korea.
