WHY IS IT TAKING TOO LONG??

SDG 3

The lives of 1.5 million HIV patients are at risk as life-saving drugs worth Sh2.1 billion have remained stuck at the port of Mombasa for more than two months over a tax dispute between Kenya and the donor, US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The anti-retroviral drugs arrived in the country on January 18 but were not cleared for entry as the Kenya Revenue Authority and USAid failed to come into tax agreement. The row has now seen USAID fail to approve antiretroviral drugs for distribution, leaving the country staring at a shortage crisis.Even as the Ministry of health and Treasury unlock the stalemate, our reporter Dolly Mwirigi spoke to a HIV patient in Kibra Slums on her struggle with getting ARVs during this time.
