Suistainable agriculture, biodiversity and climate change

SDG 1 SDG 2 SDG 3 SDG 13 SDG 15 SDG 17

We believe that agriculture and biodiversity are essential elements of life on planet earth. Biodiversity and agriculture are connected and can benefit greatly from each other. Our biodiversity and sustainable agriculture initiative will explore this connection.

It is often the case that modern, industrial agriculture can have extremely negative impacts on biodiversity. Much of the world's food production now comes from corporate mega-farms that consist of a monoculture of just one crop. And often that crop is genetically engineered to withstand high-levels of herbicides or other poisons that are designed to kill weeds or animal pests. Unfortunately, the pesticides routinely applied to these monoculture crops also kill many other plants and animals, including many non-target species Rachel c, (1962).

The agricultural sector is one of the main producers of greenhouse gases, and at the same time, is perhaps the socio-economic sector that will suffer the most serious consequences of global climate change. But it is for this reason that agriculture is an excellent testing ground to launch effective processes for mitigating global warming.
There are should be the introduction of proper methods of farming which includes the use of organic manures, avoid the use of agro-chemicals such as DDP in farming and others to make the soil safe for biodiversity habitats and control of climate change.
