Why Jakarta is sinking faster than most coastal cities

#SINKING CITIES #RISING SEA LEVEL
SDG 6 SDG 13

With the rising sea levels caused by climate change, coastal cities and low lying islands face submersion.

In the case of Jakarta rising sea levels coupled with the quest and need for water has caused the city to sink at a fast rate.
The more people gain access to piped water the more the ground is sinking and water levels rising.

The Indonesian government has considered moving the capital from Jakarta to Borneo. The question remains what does the future of Jakarta look like?
