Although access to quality health care is a constitutional right in Kenya, majority of Kenyans have to travel over long distances to be treated in either a government owned or privately owned medical centers.

Access to quality health care has been a challenge especially in rural areas in developing countries. Communities in these areas face numerous challenges such as high cost of medical services making most of the population falls below the poverty line . The National health insurance scheme in Kenya is also not fully accessible to most due to inadequate awareness about the scheme. Communities in the rural areas in Kenya also have to travel long distance to access medical services. The country generally faces a challenge of inadequate medical staff bit the situation in the rural medical centers, in addition to poor medical facilities and equipment.
Interventions such as the Safari Doctors assist in solving such challenges, decreasing the mortality and morbidity numbers in remote areas.
